On 7th August, the Food and Farming Minister Jim Fitzpatrick played host to West Country Farmhouse Cheddar at the first EU Protected Food Names Roadshow held at 10 Downing Street.
The headline-making Cheddarnaut, the 300g wedge of extra mature handmade Cheddar which was launched in to space recently by West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers, has attracted much attention... not least in literary circles! Here's a poem from Cheddarnaut follower Paul Marlowe...
West Country Farmhouse cheesemakers celebrate return of cheese lost in space
At 04.30hrs on Tuesday 28th July in a field near Pewsey in Wiltshire, members of the West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers group successfully launched a large weather balloon as it gracefully floated towards the upper atmosphere of the earth, marking the 40th anniversary of the first man on the moon and the first space flight undertaken by a piece of cheese.
