Whilst watching their Cheddar rounds by night, a group of traditional Cheesemakers have found the time to make music this Christmas to help raise money for Children In Need.
More used to early morning Cheddar-making rather than late night recording sessions, West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers, supported by family members in fine voice, gathered to record the traditional festive favourite, Good King Wenceslas.

The track, which can now be downloaded for £1 or limited edition pressed copies purchased from this website for £1.50, was recorded using the same West Country air that aides the maturation of the cheeses which are handmade on the farm using age-old traditional methods. The amateur choir was put through its paces by Chris Finch - choirmaster at the renowned Wells Cathedral School, and every penny of the proceeds from the sale of the resulting track will be donated to Children In Need.
Also, those purchasing a wedge selection online will also receive a limited edition CD (while stocks last!), with the donation being made straight to Children In Need.

Philip Crawford, chairman of the group and lead chorister, announced: “The production of this carol has been a totally West Country endeavour from start to finish. We wanted to be able to give something to charity and get into the Christmas spirit at the same time, and we’ve done it in our own traditional way. We hope the song will bring a flavour of the West Country to homes up and down the UK this Christmas, and that we raise lots of money for a worthy cause. You never know – we might even beat X Factor to the number one slot. We’re cheesier, afterall.”
Children In Need live night is taking place on Friday 20th November 2009. To make a donation please go to www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/donate
After last years washout , the sun shone brightly on The Countess of Wessex as she attended the PDO lunch and presented Parkham farms with cups for both the reserve champion cheese and best PDO West Country Farmhouse cheddar. The show was a triumph for our other farmhouse cheesemakers too with a total of 40 medals and 7 special awards, just rewards for all the care and craftsmanship that goes into all our handmade cheeses.
